SUMMARY:Women’s Solo Quest Online
DESCRIPTION:This six week program will be held online\, and in the nature setting of your own choice.\nA homecoming to deepest self\, this six session sacred journey of healing and transformation honors the power and the path of the sacred feminine as experienced in nature and in our lives as women.\nThe supportive container of the Women’s Solo Quest provides a safe\, wild and beautiful way to renew your sense of purpose\, heal a weary heart in order to live your most alive self. Enter sacred time and space alone to reflect and redirect. Connect with the earth and claim your place in the order of all life. Find and claim the gifts that are uniquely yours to give. \nFrom an article on the Women’s Quest written by Scout Tomyris\, who guided with Rites of Passage for several years: \nWe let down our guard and simply become ourselves. Meeting in Council circle\, sharing our intentions and fears with each other before the solo time\, each woman experiences for herself the complete freedom to say whatever she wants without fear of judgment or reprisal. \nAll beings have a relationship to Mother Earth. It has been widely recognized since ancient times and in cultures worldwide\, that the energy of the Earth is feminine and that of the Sky is masculine. I don’t know why. \nWhat I do know is that when I spend time alone on the Earth\, She feels like my true Mother. I lay on the ground and I am caressed and cradled to her Breast. I inhale deeply the scent of the sagebrush and I am Breathed by Her. I am fed by a view of the landscape and so She nourishes me in return. I hear birds cawing and singing\, twigs breaking\, a mole digging underground and I know that I am hearing Mother Earth speak to me. \nMother Earth teaches me that everything is connected. She is the penultimate guide as far as I am concerned. I am a mere human\, albeit one who does her best to listen to Earth’s guidance. I feel blessed that at least once a year I am called to venture forth and lead a small troupe of women on their quest for vision. Empowerment\, resourcefulness\, humility and freedom are just some of the rewards that we all experience. Women deserve this. \nThe Solo Quest Online Program Incorporates the Five Core Elements of a Wilderness Quest:\n1. Solitude\nYou will have a full day of solo time\, either sunrise to sundown\, or 24 hours. \n2. Immersion in Nature\nAn entire day is spent in nature–time for walking\, exploring\, sitting still\, journaling\, and enacting ceremony. \n3. Fasting\nFasting is an ancient cross-cultural practice\, one that opens the mind and heart. Most women are able to fast during the nature immersion time of the Solo Quest. This practice can be modified for those who cannot fast. \n4. Pan-cultural Teachings\nIn this program\, we will apply practices and teachings drawn from more than 40 years experience guiding rites of passage in nature\, including the Four Directions teachings (given to Rites of Passage by a Native American teacher); dialogue with the natural world; journaling; and other eco-psychological practices. We will also teach simple ceremonial practices that can be utilized by Solo Quest participants. \n5. Community\nTraditional rites of passage always take place in the context of community. This program will have a community of up to eight women\, to share stories\, learn from each other\, and create a safe and powerful container for the work.

SUMMARY:Virtual Basecamp: Origins of the Wilderness Guides Council
DESCRIPTION:Join us around the virtual fire\nas we listen to the stories of three elders\nwho were there at the very beginning\nof the Wilderness Guides Council —\nRon Pevny\, Marilyn Hendee\,\nand a guest recording of Meredith Little\n(made especially for this event). \nOn April 16th we will have a special Virtual Basecamp\, in which stories of the origins of the Wilderness Guides Council will be told. With its roots in that seminal gathering in the Saline Valley of California in which 26 vision fast guides and supporters came together to network\, share experiences and explore possibilities for collaborating in bringing this transformative work to greater number of people in need of meaningful rites of passage\, the WGC evolved from an amorphous concept to the vital agent for cultural change that it is today. \nHow did that happen? What were and continue to be the opportunities and challenges\, issues and synergies that have made the WGC a unique collective of cultural change agents guiding others to a deep connection with the natural world within and without? Several of those pioneers whose work helped birth and sustain the WGC will tell stories and answer questions in what is sure to be a fascinating Virtual Basecamp. \nPresented by Ron Pevny (Center for Conscious Eldering) and Marilyn Hendee (sister of Steven Foster and WGC Netkeeper 1994-2001) \nTo Obtain the Zoom Link for this Gathering\, please email the WGC Netkeepers at: wgcnetkeeper@gmail.com\nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Women's Wild Soul Quest
DESCRIPTION:Join us in ceremony on the land with 8-10 other women of all ages living in beauty and rooting ourselves in safety\, allowing our hearts to open. The land offers us an experience of deep self care\, wisdom and compassion. We will have the opportunity to explore\, discover\, and renew our commitment to our own lives and life on Earth. The land and the ceremony heals\, strengthens and offers support. The places where we may feel disconnected\, unclear or bound can and do heal. We will have the opportunity to return as women living in ease\, with gentle humor and a sense of spaciousness. \nIn our experience\, spending intentional time on the land helps relieve fear\, anxiety\, stress\, worry\, anger\, etc. It enhances feelings of well-being and delight. As we attune ourselves with the earth and all of its inhabitants we begin to let go of the perceptions and attitudes that do not serve us well. We see ourselves reflected\, or mirrored\, by the trees\, the animals\, the rocks\, the sky. We find our place in the way of things. \nThis ceremony will be held at approx 8500′ in the National Forest of Western Colorado.\nOpen to women of all ages\, experience levels and abilities.

There they share stories\, get to know the place as it is now\, listen to the land\, and make a simple gift of beauty for the place out of materials the place itself offers.

SUMMARY:3 Day Asset Based Community-Led Development workshops.
DESCRIPTION:Asset Based Community – Led Development Asset based community lead development process is about paradigm shifting and changing you view of the world to a more asset based one. Focusing on what you have and what you know. It builds a person’s awareness of what is around them and challenges negative attitudes and limiting poverty consciousness. The process encourages a proactive approach to make your own development and vision happen. The ABCD approach focuses attention on the strengths and capacities that communities already have and builds from there. The intention is to surface hidden “gifts”\, grow appreciation and common vision from which to move forward. The ABCD approach is based on the beliefs that: • meaningful and lasting community change always comes from within • every person has capacities\, abilities and gifts • local residents are experts and key change agents ABCD promotes collaborative efforts for economic and social development. The intention is to make best use of the existing resources and ensure that the community is driving the development process.

SUMMARY:Intergenerational Women's Fast
DESCRIPTION:Since time immemorial\, women have gathered to celebrate\, honor and support life. In doing so\nwe form a sisterhood deeply rooted in our own authentic nature. As we join together to share\nour stories across a spectrum of years\, we hear echoes of our own wisdom and intuitive\nknowing\, and we remind each other that we are enough; we are beautiful; we are powerfully\ncreative. \nRestoration\nIn this program we create a clearing in our lives to restore what has been forgotten\,\nfragmented or diminished. Ceremony invites us to take time to slow down and to find what we\nmay have lost in the frenetic pace and challenges of our daily lives. We pause. We listen. We\ntake notice of what is emerging through that body-sensing way of our feminine nature. \nRemembering\nWelcome to our intergenerational village! We do not go out to be tested\, to prove our\nworthiness or strength\, but rather to return to our natural rhythms and rootedness. We\nremember our essential nature as the wild humans we are\, empowered to trust our instincts\, unearthing the essence in our bones. In our blood we feel the yearning to trust our innate\nattunement and body wisdom\, letting go of the familiar habits of struggle and striving so we\ncan respond with relaxed strength and awareness. \nReconnection\nAs women\, we come together to renew our connection to the more than human world and to\nbetter understand our current life passage and stage of growth. Through immersion in wild\nnature\, the teachings of the Four Shields\, ritual and community\, we gain clarity on what is\nripening within us and ready to be revealed\, so that we may step more confidently into our\npotential and aliveness. As we nourish the inner well\, we discover our beauty. \nOverview\nThis 10-day vision fast ceremony\, led by two experienced guides\, involves four days of\npreparation\, three days of solo\, and three days of reincorporation\, to support and hold your\nemergence. Following a pan-cultural model of transitions\, this ceremony moves through the\nthree stages of severance (preparation) – threshold (solo) – reincorporation (return).\nLiving nature is your mirror and source of transformation\, and we will dive deep into this\nexploration of inner and outer communion. Our women’s community is witness to the layers\nyou shed and the new identity you may find.

SUMMARY:Rites of Passage/Vision Quest – Last Chance Creek\, Plumas National Forest
DESCRIPTION:Mid-life Crisis\, Post-Graduation Identity Crisis\, Post-Retirement Identity Crisis–household terms in our culture–how did the passage from one stage of\nlife to another come to be characterized as a crisis? Each stage of life contains within it an opportunity for growth\, change and a deepening of Soul. To pass from youth to adult is to acknowledge and take on certain rights\, responsibilities and most importantly a sense of one’s true destiny or mission in life. Mid-life can viewed as the true adulthood\, when human beings have the greatest opportunity to fulfill their dreams\, be of greatest value to the community\, become leaders\, and begin to understand more precisely the unique contribution they are capable of making. Elders may complete their missions and give back in a variety of unique ways. To honor such transitions and to help with the discovery of a truer and deeper Self is the core purpose of the Vision Quest Ceremony. \nHe not busy being born is busy dying. –Bob Dylan \nIn traditional and indigenous cultures ceremonies such as Vision Quest exist to help people to become more fully themselves. In the alone time of the Vision Quest a person communes with Spirit\, Nature\, and Inner Voice to bring forth a clearer and more powerful manifestation of True Self or Soul. With this vision of Soul a person can more beautifully and dynamically embrace the subsequent challenges of living life on life’s terms. Each life transition\, youth to adult\, adult to mid-life\, mid-life to elder\, and others\, requires a profound reassessment of goals\, desires\, and motivations to live as one reborn instead of one simply growing older. \nProcess: Preparation begins as soon as you decide to quest. Your guides provide preparation with regard to safety considerations\, general philosophy\, and individual goals and concerns. They camp nearby while you are solo in the circle of your creation. They provide spiritual\, psychological and physical support for your efforts. After the alone time of the quest everyone sits in council\, listens to the questers’ stories\, and mirrors their stories back to them. To tell your story to the elders is powerful. To hear your own story told back to you is a marvelous and wonderful gift. \nWho: All who are ready or may be ready for initiation into a deeper sense of their own unique human life: youth\, adult\, mid-life\, or elder. \nWhere: Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains in the watershed of the Feather River \nGuides: Howchi Kilburn\, MFT and Associates \nHow to learn more or decide to join in the venture: Call l Howchi at (707)303-3238 or (707)536-6117\, or email Howchi at keithhowchi@howchi.net \nPayment: by donation to Wilderness Guides Council\, a non-profit organization\, \nWe are always happy to talk about the beauty and wonder of questing in the wilderness\, so please contact us even if it’s just to talk.

SUMMARY:Transforming Ancestral Trauma through Nature\, Ritual\, and Community
DESCRIPTION:This program provides an opportunity to consciously explore how the shadows of the past remain undigested in our personal and collective lives. To what degree are we aware of their impact on our present day experiences? How does our behavior reflect some trauma or dysfunction from the past? What resilience and wisdom have we inherited through our lineage? \nThe stories of our ancestors are part of who we are today\, but much of their influence remains unconscious. Through immersion in wild nature\, supported by ritual and safe community\, we can begin a process of healing. When we explore and bring awareness to what is unintegrated in our ancestral line\, we create more presence and more vitality in our life that helps with the challenges we face. The journey is both a deeply personal exploration as well as an inquiry into our collective trauma. \nHistorical events\, such as war\, the Holocaust\, slavery\, the genocide of Native Americans\, and the Depression\, intersect with the traumas in our lineage and are carried across generations. Through awareness and the courage to face the past\, we can bring light to the shame\, fear\, mistrust\, numbness\, grief\, and other feelings that perhaps lie dormant from “looking away.” \nThe format of the 7-day program is spacious\, to allow for delicate insights to emerge. We will meet daily in sharing councils\, with teachings followed by experiential reflection walks on the land\, and then further councils in the evenings. The framework of the Four Shields will support and help us map out our exploration of ancestral wounding. Other rituals and practices will enhance our time together. On day 5\, participants will undertake a 24-hour solo with optional fasting. Upon return participants will share their stories and have them mirrored by the guides.

SUMMARY:Stories of the Canyon with David Abram
DESCRIPTION:With each fresh meander of the river\, the bustle of civilization fades into the many-voiced stillness of the canyon – into the sunlight glinting off a heron’s wing\, and the limitless eloquence of a world that exceeds all our knowing. We’ll glide into elemental conversations between our bodies and the breathing earth\, entering improvisational exchanges with other creatures and plants and clouds\, with the silken skin of the water\, with the invisible wind and the echoing cliffs. \nIn the course of this week we’ll explore the mysteries of perception and the magic of sensory experience: waking our creaturely senses\, loosening our animal eyes and ears and muscles from the constraints imposed by societal assumptions and over-civilized ways of thinking. We’ll glide into elemental conversations between our bodies and the breathing earth\, entering improvisational exchanges with other creatures and plants and clouds\, with the silken skin of the water\, with the invisible wind and the echoing cliffs. Spontaneous\, expressive movement may well play some part in whatever mischief we get up to. Listening\, laughing\, extending our bodily imagination into the hidden depths of the animate terrain\, we’ll paddle our way into a more fluid and lasting rapport with the more-than-human earth dreaming all around us.

SUMMARY:Trebbe Johnson Canoe Journey
DESCRIPTION:Wherever we are\, the place that holds us reaches out to touch our own life: what we’ve been through\, what we long for\, what frightens us\, what gives us joy. Our places on Earth also call to us to get more involved with them—to immerse ourselves in their history\, their hurts\, their beauty. Often\, our own preoccupations are so dominant that we forget to pay attention to this constant exchange of invitations and impulses. On this journey through Labyrinth Canyon we open up to the dialogue between our own hearts and the land and water that hold us.\n8 days\, 45 miles of canoeing\, daily writing and delicious food.

SUMMARY:The Elder’s Journey: The Four Shields of Elderhood for Women
DESCRIPTION:“We are the seeds of the tenacious plant\, and it is in our ripeness and our fullness of heart that we are given to the wind and scattered.”\nKahlil Gibran \nThroughout the ages\, elder women have enjoyed sitting in circle to weave the rich tapestries of their stories\, stories that continued to warm and inspire people across time and culture. \nWhat about us\, now\, in our time? As women in all stages of growing into our greater years\, there is a growing passion and a commitment to tell our own stories. We have children\, or we are childless\, we are single or we are partnered\, working or retired\, healthy or feeling the struggles of the body. Whatever stage of elderhood we find ourselves navigating it is important that we find our way\, with as much humor\, grace and dignity as possible. Death awaits us all\, and how we move through these years is of utmost importance. \nElderhood is an evolving experience that can be a ripening of our strengths rather than the dulling of our minds. From the words of social activist Maggie Kuhn\, “Old age is not a disease. It is a strength in survivor-ship\, triumph over all kinds of vicissitudes and disappointments\, trials and illness.” This speaks to aging as an extraordinary achievement. It is an opportunity to re-awaken the imagination towards new possibilities and a renewed spirit inspired by the lived wisdom acquired over the years. \nAs women ripen into the various stages of elderhood\, it may be time to re-map the landscape to make room for the emerging new perspectives of what it means to be an elder in today’s world. Through honoring the years of a life lived\, creating new meaning and imparting our gifts in service\, we move towards transformation and into a renewed vitality\, creativity\, and vision. This program is an invitation to open to what is needed to welcome the elders we are becoming. \nProgram Overview: During our time together we will explore ways to deepen into a more conscious approach to how we can live as elder women in the world today. We will recall our personal stories\, life experiences and collected knowledge and discover ways to transform them into our wisdom and our medicine. \nWe will explore an ancient means of looking into the mirror of nature through the lens of the Four Shields (a nature based teaching) that will reflect and support the wisdom of the elders as a natural point for introspection and meaning . We will move through the 4 seasons\, the 4 directions and the stages of life.\nThese teachings and the earth itself will help to bring what is needed to your own particular stage of this rich new frontier. \nOur days will be filled with a morning circle that will include a check-in and teachings and discussion. In the afternoon a mission will be suggested and there will be time alone on the land. There will be late afternoon story councils for listening and reflection.\nA 24 hour contemplative solo/silence will be offered during the week. Fasting is suggested during this time. A ceremonial sweat will be offered (moderate heat due to honoring sensitivities). \nTime and Location: A special offering for the first time at the Elders’ Journey program. We will be Staying at one of Tucson’s special ranch and retreat centers at Aravaipa in Winkleman\, Arizona. Steeped in Apache history and land that offers a stream that flows through the canyon and a beautiful labyrinth nearby and much more. \nProgram Questions Contact: Silvia Talavera at silvia@lostborders.org

SUMMARY:Anima Terra: A Yearlong Journey of Descent and Soul Emergence for Women
DESCRIPTION:New Cohort Starting October 2023! \nGuides: Jonah Ruh Roberts and Tracey Forest \nAn·i·ma /ˈanəmə/noun 1. the soul; 2. the feminine principle \nTer·ra /ˈterə/ noun 1. land or territory; 2. the planet earth \nANIMA TERRA is a FEMININE version of the Journey of Soul Initiation—A Journey of Wild Descent and Soul Emergence for Women.\nThere is not a program like this anywhere else. It is a creation that grows out of our intensive\, years-long guide training with the Animas Valley Institute\, but also from our many years’ love of and experience with women’s work. While you can do lots of women’s programs and you can go on a journey of soul initiation\, no one out there is marrying them in the way that has emerged through our own mythos and guidance. \nThis journey is NOT for everyone. It IS for women who feel the call from Earth and Soul to dive more deeply than ever before\, to cross a one-way portal and fall back into the “source of everything\,” to dissolve and open to the Muse\, to Mystery\, to the mythopoetic underworld\, to finally gain access to their own ecological niche in Earth’s dream. \nAnima Terra is for women who are already engaged in worthwhile lives and work\, have achieved one or more successful\, functional roles in society and have cultivated a sense of responsibility to themselves and the world\, YET they hear an undeniable call to something more — to something beyond the edges of the known — something wild\, rich\, and even a little scary. Through murmurings and imaginings\, they have been urged to uncover why they are really here and to hear what their Soul is beckoning them to embody. \nThis transformational journey is one of descent and return. The descent is into the underworld of Earth and Psyche to let go of attachments to the roles and identities of a life that has become confining\, so you can encounter the pure voice and true expression of your wild feminine Soul. By courageously releasing the cultural and personal mindsets that have bound you\, you will cross many thresholds\, confront your shadows\, your fears\, and your wounds as well as your light\, and explore the edges of your grief and your longing. In relationship with the clear reflections of nature\, you can allow yourself to be radically reshaped by the elemental forces of wind and water\, moon and sun\, rocks and trees\, owl and coyote\, and return to your communities in wholeness\, with your mythical Soul now guiding your life. \nThis yearlong journey\, held at four different wild places in the Northeast\, USA\, unfolds over five sessions – four five-day sessions and one eight-day Vision Fast session – beginning in October 2023 and ending in November 2024. \nDATES \nOctober 19 – 23\, 2023 at Spirit Hollow in Shaftsbury\, Vermont \nFebruary 15 – 19\, 2024 location TBA \nJune 23 – 30\, 2024 at Spirit Hollow \nSeptember 5 – 9\, 2023 in Unity\, NH at Jonah’s place \nNovember 14 – 18\, 2024 location TBA \nWhat’s this journey like? See sisters in the current Anima Terra cohort describing their experiences:\n \n \nIf this sounds enticing\, please visit the webpage. If you get a full-bodied YES\, please contact us — either by email or for a phone call (and you can fill out the application). \nThere are only 12 spots\, and we are already 1/4 full\, so let us know if you’re interested as soon as you can.

SUMMARY:Rites of Incorporation: Embodying the Vision and Living the Dream
DESCRIPTION:“Hold fast to dreams\, for if dreams die life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.”\n– Langston Hughes \nThis program is an invitation to all who have experienced a vision fast\, or a life transition\, had a dream or may have had a special event to mark or celebrate that long to be embodied and lived out. This offering may be a helpful tool in negotiating this challenging yet rich and fruitful landscape of living into your dreams or vision along with the many other possibilities that are begging to emerge in your life. It begs the question “How do I embody my vision and live my dream?” \nCorpus is the Latin word for body\, and to incorporate is to bring into your body. \nYour physical body is the structure and form in which you live and it is imperative that you give your new ideas and dreams a solid and foundational platform so that you are better able to embody and move them forward into your life. \nThis program is designed to take incorporation to a deeper level. Usually\, the work of incorporating experiences into your life can be most challenging. Often when you return to your busy life it is not always easy to continue with the hard work it takes to manifest your vision and give it practical feet. If ignored it is the place where the previous work of all your dreaming and great ideas can easily be forgotten and placed on the back burner or dismissed altogether. \nWe will be taking the rites of incorporation through the lens of the Four Shields of Human Nature (a nature-based teaching) and nature itself to help teach\, guide and inspire you. \nWe will meet every morning for a daily check-in\, teachings and discussions. In the afternoon you will be given a suggested mission and have 2-3 hours solo time in nature. There will be times in the afternoon and evenings given for reflections and discussions. \nIt is our hope that you will come away from this program with new skills and a refreshed awareness in ways to work with your visions\, dreams\, and ideas and carry them forward into your lives. \nProgram Questions Contact: Silvia Talavera at silvia@lostborders.org

SUMMARY:Embody Feral Female Ferocity
DESCRIPTION:A Wild Yoga Online Immersion\, Oct 24 – Dec 12 \nDates: Tuesdays Oct 24\, 31\, Nov 21\, 28\, Dec 5\, and 12 \nTimes: 11 am MT (six two-hour sessions) \n+ 1 hour personal session with Rebecca Wildbear. \nWe will reawaken to this natural power for our well-being and the love of our threatened Earth by asking the land\, our body\, and our dreams to teach us how to be fierce. We will attune to anger’s signals\, which are sane reactions to structural discrimination. We will seek to unveil power imbalances and listen to the voices not being heard. We’ll honor our feelings\, remember fierce beings we encountered in our dreams\, and imagine what they could bring to our life. \nFerocity is natural and necessary for creatures in the wilderness. Snakes and scorpions act boldly to protect themselves\, especially when threatened by someone higher on the food chain. Yet the dominant human culture discourages nature\, women\, and marginalized communities\, etc.\, from being fierce\, even when they want to defend themselves or protect nature. Those who develop feral ferocity become aware of patriarchal power’s subtle and crude dynamics and respond to injustice from their wild imaginations and with deep empathy for the natural world \nNotice how humanity treats nature. Attune to the everyday violence that is normalized. By developing feral ferocity\, you can restore your instinct to protect all life. Men and women can become allies who honor and embody female ferocity and defend the Earth.

SUMMARY:Adult Vision Fast in Death Valley
DESCRIPTION:In want of deeper meaning? There is not always a clear path. Longing for a change in one’s life\, it can be challenging to take the leap. Knowing when you yourself have transitioned from one life stage to the next\, is sometimes elusive. At these times\, it can be hugely transformative to enlist community support\, devote time for self-reflection\, and consult the ageless voice of wild nature. \nThis modern-day vision fast engages one’s entire being\, requiring each person to strongly claim their whole Self. It is a challenging\, nourishing\, insightful time in the expansive desert\, where a trained team will create a strong container in which you can claim the transformation and discovery you wish for yourself. You will be joined by a circle of people from varying backgrounds and given a chance to be listened to deeply. \nThe Adult Vision Fast is inclusive of all genders. Different than our gender specific fasts\, topics—and therefore learnings—about gender and between genders are common. It is a ten-day\, journey of Nature\, Spirit\, and Community\, including three days and nights in which participants fast in solitude. The initial four days are focused on your physical\, psychological\, and spiritual preparation for your fast. The middle days are devoted to your vision fast. The final days help you intentionally integrate your experience in the desert in order to move forward in your life back home. \nWhen you know there is something more being asked of you from this life\, when you are seeking vision\, when you are clear that you need to make a change or redefine who you are\, then a vision fast can be right for you. \nGuided by Rob Miller and Kinde Nebeker
