Teen summer backpacking program in Yosemite National Park and Tahoe National Forest. Get off the screen and into your life. All levels of experience welcome, scholarships available.
I (Kelsie) will be on the two ten-day W.I.L.D. trips for fem-identified teens in 10th grade and up (in June and July). There are also a few shorter trips for younger teen girls and a number of trips for boys/masc-identified youth throughout the summer. While we unfortunately don’t yet have a fully gender-expansive trip option, gender non-conforming youth are welcome in whichever trip they feel most drawn to, and we guides are available to chat about where they’d be most supported. All the guides in the org are really talented, amazing folks.
Who we are:
Since 2015, Back to Earth has taken hundreds of teens and young adults on transformative adventures in wild places all over California. We teach skills that expand young people’s knowledge base and ability to care for themselves and each other. Guides offer skilled mentorship, helping young people navigate the transitions of adolescence towards lives of joy, purpose and authenticity. Our signature summer backpacking program, W.I.L.D. (Wilderness Immersion & Leadership Development) takes teens on 5, 7 and 10-day adventures in some of the most epic places in the Sierra Nevada mountains. What to expect:
We climb stunning peaks and swim in crystal clear waters. We play games in the woods and go deep sitting in council around the fire. Participants learn to travel safely in the backcountry, manage risk, take care of their gear, and develop real world leadership skills. Through a variety of nature awareness and mindfulness practices, we develop relationships with the natural world that sustain physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. W.I.L.D.’s unique combination of hard skills training, expressive arts, and rites of passage work fosters a culture of gratitude and resilience that supports transformative personal growth, while having a great time.
