Karen Gordon

Center for Sacred Ecology
Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Equal parts soul-filled scientist, inspired educator, wilderness rites of passage guide, mountain mystic + plant medicine woman, Karen's roots dive deep into an ever-evolving exploration of how our external landscapes mirror and nourish our inner soulscapes. Her attention is drawn to the subtle spaces where mind, body, spirit and stories intersect upon the unique topography of our lives.

With a 30-year career as a field biologist, restoration ecologist, environmental educator and spiritual director, my work has flowed from the fjords of the North Atlantic, across the reefs of the Caribbean Sea and up to Costa Rica’s cloud-forested mountaintops where I have stewarded the 40-acre Samanea Nature Sanctuary and Organic Farm for close to 20 years.

As both a backcountry guide and restoration specialist, I am in service to the moments in our lives which call for orientation and the cultivation of our inner ground.

The Center for Sacred Ecology offers courses and sacred ceremony year-round. We also custom-craft wilderness experiences in deep nature for those who seek meaingful rites of passage in order to experience and empower their True Nature. We welcome both national and international visitors, and our programs are offered in either English or Spanish.

The wilderness quests offered by the Center for Sacred Ecology are based at the Samanea Nature Sanctuary and Farm, and are informed by the bare-bones Way of the School of Lost Borders.

Pura vida!
